What if I am:an Early Admission Student, a Home Education Student, a Florida Resident Graduating from a High School Outside of Florida, or a GED Student? Students must earn a standard Florida high school diploma or its equivalent as described in Bright Futures law, unless:
Students Enrolled in an Early Admission Program Early Admit students will no longer be eligible to apply for Bright Futures prior to their senior year in high school. Students may apply for an award beginning December 1 of the student’s high school graduation year. Early admission students must meet all of the general requirements for the Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program, except the requirement to earn a standard Florida high school diploma. An early admission student may receive a scholarship in the fall of the first year of early admissions if the student has earned the qualifying GPA in the current courses completed at a Florida high school and the required test score, and the student is enrolled full time as a degree-seeking student in the early admission program of an eligible Florida postsecondary institution. The student must apply for a Florida Bright Futures Scholarship at the end of the last year in high school (prior to his/her admittance year in college). The student's high school transcript must be submitted to the Florida Department of Education for evaluation after the student's sixth semester in high school. Once a student is awarded a Bright Futures Scholarship as an early admission student, the student cannot improve that award. Students Completing a Home Education Program All home educated students must meet the general requirements for the Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program, except the requirement to earn a standard Florida high school diploma. In lieu of the diploma, all home educated students must be registered with the district where they reside for grades 11 and 12. Download Home Education Packet Students Who Are Florida Residents Earning a Diploma from a Non-Florida High School Students residing outside the State of Florida with a parent or guardian on an active military duty or public service assignment away from Florida must meet the general requirements for the Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program, except the requirement to earn a Florida high school diploma. Students must meet program eligibility requirements, provide verification of the parent's military or public service assignment, and provide documentation of Florida residency status. Public service assignment is defined as the occupational assignment of a Florida resident employed by the United States Government or State of Florida, who as a condition of employment, is located and working outside the state of Florida. A student whose parent or guardian is on public service assignment may reside with either natural parent or another adult designated by either natural parent or guardian. Out-of-state students whose parents are serving in the military or are on public service assignment outside the state of Florida and who are home educated must provide documentation to show compliance with the home education requirements of the state in which they were home schooled. Their test scores must meet the same minimum requirements of Florida home education students qualifying for a Florida Academic or Medallion Scholars award. Home education transcripts are not accepted. Out-of-state students whose parents are serving in the military or are on public service assignment outside the State of Florida and who earn an out-of-state GED must meet the scholarship curriculum and grade point average requirements before taking the GED exam. The minimum SAT or ACT test score must be achieved by June 30th of the year in which the GED is earned. Eligibility for a scholarship will be determined in the year in which the GED is earned. Funding will begin the fall term of the next academic year. Students Earning a Diploma via the GED Exam All GED students must meet the general requirements for the Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program, except the requirement to earn a standard Florida high school diploma. The GED will serve as an equivalent to the standard diploma. To be determined eligible for the scholarship, GED students must meet the scholarship curriculum and grade point average requirements before taking the GED exam. The minimum test score must be achieved by June 30th of the year in which the GED is earned. Eligibility for a scholarship will be determined in the year in which the GED is earned.
