Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program

Community Service Requirements for the Florida Academic Scholars Award (FAS) only

First-Time Applicant Information

FAS initial eligibility requirements include 75 hours of community service, as approved by the school district or the administration of the private high school.  Regardless of the method used to qualify (National Merit and Achievement Scholars and Finalists, National Hispanic Scholars International Baccalaureate Diploma recipients) all initial FAS applicants must meet the community service requirement.  No waivers of this requirement can be granted.

Home educated students and students who are dependents of military or public service personnel on an active duty outside of Florida must provide a letter from the agency or agencies where the community service hours were earned.

Guidance Counselor Information

Public high schools will provide recognition of community service on the student's Florida Automated System for Transferring Educational Records(FASTER) transcript.  This recognition can appear in one of two places:

  • the Number of Community Service Hours field (field number 57 on the FASTER T1 record);  or
  • the Course Number field (field number 13 on the FASTER T4 record) may include one of the designated Community Service Courses (0500360, 0500370, or 2104330).

Private high schools must check the field titled Community Service Hours Completed on transcripts submitted through the Online Transcript Entry System.
