Accessing Code Files Available at Northwest Regional Data Center

For your convenience, the code tables listed in this appendix are maintained at the Northwest Regional Data Center (NWRDC) by either OADS or the Office of Education Information & Accountability Services (EIAS). When the dataset name for the file contains the letters 'Yyear' replace the 'year' with the current school year. For example, in item 1 below, DPS.DISTRICT.G4.F25031.Y0910 would be the 2009-2010 file while DPS.DISTRICT.G4.F25031.Y1011 would contain data for 2010-2011.

As explained in Chapter 12, the format for this dataset and other DOE datasets can be downloaded from partitioned dataset DPS.DISTRICT.FORMAT.Yyear(member name F25031), stored at NWRDC. Alternately, the format and the data may be downloaded using Internet FTP as documented in Chapter X.

1. Master School ID (MSID) File, Course File, Vocational Course File and Private Schools File
The Office of Education Information & Accountability Services' (EIAS) Master School ID (MSID) File contains names, numbers, and other useful information on Florida PK-12 public schools. A sequential copy of this file has been made available as dataset DPS.DISTRICT.G4.F25031.Yyear. Note that the unique identifier for a school consists of two fields: District Number and School Number. Thus, the unique identifier for a school is 6 characters in length. The MSID file format can be found in DPS.DISTRICT.FORMAT.Y1011(F25031).
Private School Numbers can be found on the sequential file DPS.DISTRICT.GH.F70119.Yyear. Like the Public School MSID file, the unique identifier consists of the two fields District Number and School Number. The format for this file can be found in DPS.DISTRICT.FORMAT.Y1011(F70119).
Other available files are:
the Course file - DPS.DISTRICT.K9.F62806.Y9999 (where 9999 is the four-digit school year); and
the Vocational Courses file - DPS.DISTRICT.GQ.F60922.Y9999.
2. U.S. State Codes
A table of state codes is stored at NWRDC as a dataset named FRN.DISTRICT.STATE. This file has a record length of 80 characters, and can be downloaded as explained at the top of this page. State codes are 2-byte fields that begin in column 1. State names are stored in 20-byte fields beginning in column 6.
3. Foreign Country and U.S. Territory Codes
A table of foreign country codes, for fiscal years 95-96 to current, is stored at NWRDC as a dataset named DPS.DISTRICT.COUNTRY.Yyear. These codes are used in the interdistrict and secondary to postsecondary record formats. This file has a record length of 80 characters, and can be downloaded as stated above. The format for this file is a 3-byte filler, followed by a 4-digit year (0910) beginning in position 4, followed by a 2-byte country code that begins in position 8. The country name is a 20-byte field beginning in position 10.
A table of foreign country codes, for fiscal years 01-02 to current, is stored at NWRDC as a dataset named DPS.DISTRICT.COUNTRY.CODES.Yyear. These codes are used in the interdistrict and secondary to postsecondary record formats. This file has a record length of 80 characters, and can be downloaded as stated above. The format for this file is the same as DPS.DISTRICT.COUNTRY.Y0910 above.
A table of U.S. Territory codes, for fiscal years 01-02 to current, is stored at NWRDC as a dataset named DPS.DISTRICT.TERRITRY.Yyear. These codes are used in the interdistrict and secondary to postsecondary record formats. This file has a record length of 80 characters, and can be downloaded as stated above. The format for this file is the same as DPS.DISTRICT.COUNTRY.Y0910 above.
4. Code List for Florida Postsecondary Public and Non-Public Institutions
This table of codes is stored at NWRDC as a dataset named FRN.DISTRICT.POSTSEC. Each record is 80 characters long and can be downloaded in the same way that programs are retrieved from FRN.DISTRICT.SOURCE. The institution code is a 4-byte field beginning in column 1. A 25-byte short name is found in columns 6-30. The long name for the institution is 40 bytes beginning in column 32 and going through column 71. In-state state college codes range from C901 through C928, in-state university codes range from U970 through U979 and in-state private postsecondary institutions range from P001 through P999.
5. International Standards Organization (ISO) Country Codes
A list of country codes used in the postsecondary transcript formats is available on ISO Country Codes.
6. Postsecondary Campus Codes
A table of campus codes used in referring to Florida postsecondary public institutions is stored at NWRDC as a dataset named FRN.DISTRICT.CAMPUS. Like the state code datasets above, this file has a record length of 80 characters, and can be downloaded in the same way. Columns 1 through 6 contain the institution's OPEID Code followed by a 4-byte Campus Code in columns 7 through 10. The institution name is a 35-character field in columns 11 through 45. The campus name is also a 35-character field in columns 46 through 80. Codes are numeric, right-justified and zero-filled while names are left-justified, blank filled and in upper/lower case.
7. International Standards Organization (ISO) Language Codes
A list of language codes used in the postsecondary transcript formats is available on ISO 639 language codes
8. International Classification of Diseases (ICD) Codes
The complete list of ICD codes is quite voluminous. This file, however, contains the subset of the ICD codes used in the G99HC, G99HS, and G99IMM record formats. It is stored at NWRDC as dataset FRN.DISTRICT.ICD. This file has a record length of 80 characters with the ICD code in bytes 1 through 6 and the name in 30-byte fields beginning in column 11.
