Award Amounts for Florida Public and Private Institutions

Florida Academic Scholars Award (FAS)
 Florida Medallion Scholars Award (FMS) Florida Gold Seal Vocational Scholars Award (GSV)

Public Institution – An award equal to 100% of tuition and allowable fees* plus an amount** established by the Florida Legislature in the General Appropriations Act for college-related expenses (excluding summer term) prorated by term and hours.

Private Institution - Fixed award amount based on 100% of the average tuition and allowable fees covered at a comparable Florida public institution including the specified amount** established by the Florida Legislature in the General Appropriations Act provided for college-related expenses (excluding summer term) prorated by term and hours.
Public Community College - An award equal to 100% of tuition and allowable fees* for college credit courses leading to an associate degree.

Other Public Institutions - An award equal to 75% of tuition and allowable fees.*

Private Institution - Fixed award amount based on 75% of the average tuition and allowable fees covered at a comparable Florida public institution (excluding summer term) prorated by term and hours.
Public Institution – An award equal to 75% of tuition and allowable fees.*




Private Institution – Private Institution - Fixed award amount based on 75% of the average tuition and allowable fees covered at a comparable Florida public institution (excluding summer term) prorated by term and hours.

Fixed Award Amounts for Students Attending Private Postsecondary Institutions in 2007-08 effective January 1, 2008


The 2007-08 Florida Bright Futures Scholarship award amounts for students attending Florida privately funded institutions are listed below.  As required by law, they are based on the average matriculation and allowable fees at comparable public institutions.  Fees included in the cost per credit hour are reported by the student’s home postsecondary institution unless otherwise prohibited by Florida Statutes are:

  • Access and Transportation
  • Activity and Service
  • Athletic
  • Building
  • Capital Improvement
  • Financial Aid
  • Health
  • Technology

** 2007-08 FAS receive a Term 2 college-related expense allotment of $225 (prorated by terms and hours).

The Florida Bright Futures Scholarship award amount for public colleges and universities is calculated based on each institution's cost per credit hour and the number of hours in which the student is enrolled at the end of the drop/add period each term.

4 Year Semester Schools (Average comparable public 4 year institution costs)

Florida Academic Scholars (FAS)
Fixed award amount based on 100% of the average tuition and allowable fees covered at a comparable Florida public institution including the specified amount established by the Florida Legislature in the General Appropriations Act provided for college-related expenses (excluding summer term) prorated by term and hours.

Conversion of Semester Credits and Clock Hours to Quarter Credits
- Each semester credit represents 1.5 quarter credits. To calculate the equivalent quarter credits, multiply the semester credit by 1.5.
- 30 clock hours represents 1 semester credit. To calculate the equivalent semester credits, divide the total number of clock hours by 30.
